Getting started with swing
New to swing dancing? There has never been a better time to learn! If you are looking to get started, the best way
is to start out with one of the beginner dance lessons before one of the local Orlando dances. This gives you a good introduction to swing
dancing and allows you to check out the local swing community. For a start, we recommend the class before the
2nd & 4th Saturday swing dances. The instructors are welcoming and friendly and
focus on giving the beginner a solid foundation in the dance. The dance also attracts a diverse age range and everyone is sure to feel
right at home.
Another way to get a good start is to check out one of the Orlando swing dance series classes.
This is also a great way to continue and advance your learning once you got a head start at a local dance. Weekly classes allow you to learn over a period of time to
avoid information overload. Classes start out with the basic and keep adding new material week by week so you continue to grow as a
dancer. As for styles of swing dance, it's a good idea to start with a class in basic swing or
Lindy Hop.
You can also start out with private lessons, however, it is more cost effective
to begin with group classes. You can learn all the basics and foundation moves in a group class and then save your questions to get individual help
and attention on your problem areas in a private lesson. It's a great way to learn and it is very cost effective.
Don't be shy! The key to learning swing dancing is not to be shy. The local swing scene is very open and welcoming. Come out,
join in, and learn. If you have any questions, drop by the beginner guide.
